Scenic Flight 1: "Special" as indicated on the map legend as light blue, takes in the unique beauty of Francois Peron National Park with its red sands, aqua bays and startling white beaches.Named after Francois Peron a naturalist, explorer and historian who sailed to Australia (then New Holland) with Nicholas Baudin on the ship “Geographe”. The Francois Peron National Park has stunning scenery which is often sought after by photographers and artists for the amazing contrasts in the landscape and it is not unusual for to see an array of marine life such as dolphins, sharks, rays and dugongs, all from the comfort of your aircraft seat.

At Cape Peron one can observe the confluence of ocean currents and also the varied patterns made by tidal movements. Fly over the Denham town site, past bright blue Little Lagoon and have the opportunity to spot rays, sharks, turtles and dugongs before reaching the stunning Big Lagoon, which forms a magnificent mosaic of interconnected salt lagoons. Many of the lagoons are nurseries for many fish species. The return to Shark Bay airport is via historic Peron Homestead which was originally a sheep station now part of the Peron Heritage precinct. An Artesian soak used by the early settlers now services the very popular hot tub on the property.

This flight is our most popular scenic tour. As the aircraft flies over the coastal area there are ample opportunities to see sharks, rays and turtles, perhaps even humpback whales and whale sharks in season, as well as the famous elusive dugongs which feed on the marine kelp forests. This flight crosses Freycinet Reach to the fascinating patchwork of salt ponds at Useless Loop. It then crosses the sandy finger of Bellefin Prong and out over the rugged Zuytdorp Cliffs. Following the cliffs northward to Australia's most westerly landfall at Steep Point which is separated from historic Dirk Hartog Island by the waters of South Passage passengers can observe a wide range of geological and marine formations which have contributed greatly to the areas popularity.

The flight crosses part of Dirk Hartog Island and continues over shallow waters and sand bars adding to the astonishing range of blues and greens hues of the area and then returns to Denham and Shark Bay airport.

This flight takes passengers to the very tip of Francois Peron National Park as cliffs glow red and orange in the late afternoon light and as the sun sinks over the sandy dunes of Dirk Hartog Island.  

Although traditionally scheduled in the late afternoon, if preferred, this scenic flight can be arranged during the day on request. On this flight there are many opportunities to spot dugongs, rays, sharks, turtles, dolphins as well as other marine species in the crystal clear waters.

Mangroves and fingers of sand spits mark our arrival at Guichenault Point. We then continue via Monkey Mia and cross a fascinating array of salt lakes which dot the landscape before our return home to Denham in the early evening.

This flight takes us out past the township of Denham the flight crosses Freycinet Reach to Useless Loop. you will see the stunning Zuytdorp Cliffs and Steep Point which is the most westerly point of Australia, as well as Dirk Hartog Island We search the shallow waters and amongst the seagrass beds for marine life that may include turtles, dolphins, dugongs, sharks or manta rays. The flight continues past Surf Point and the western coast of Dirk Hartog Island National Park to historic Cape Inscription, along famous Turtle Bay and to the tip Francois Peron National Park. This flight path allows an excellent opportunity to spot humpback whales and whale sharks in season before crossing to Cape Peron North and Skipjack Point, another area noted for its marine life. Next we cross Francois Peron National Park to the famous Big Lagoon and Cape Lesueur. The flight then deviates over Peron homestead and before returning to Shark Bay Airport.

If you’re lucky you may get a wave from passing humpback whales in season!

This flight takes us past Denham where we fly south past Ocean Park and the popular look - out of Eagle Bluff and with this, the chance to see rays, turtles, sharks and elusive dugongs.

The flight tracks south through the magnificent coast line of Freycinet Harbour  to the rugged Zuytdorp Cliffs, tracking over the coral reefs of south passage and Dirk Hartog Island. The flight back to Denham and your destination of Shark Bay airport you will see the unfolding of one of nature’s wonders - an astonishing spectacle of crystal clear blues and greens waters

This flight takes you across Peron National Park, the Monkey Mia Nature Reserve and Faure Island then on to Hamelin Pool. From Hamelin Pool the flight heads to the southern end of Freycinet reach then on to Useless Loop salt mine. On the way back to Shark Bay you will observe the Denham township. This flight really allows you to appreciate the tranquility of Shark Bay and is a great opportunity to take some stunning photographs.
